Eye Care for Pets

By Dr. Avery Woodworth | Nov 11, 2009

Eye problems can be very severe in both dogs and cats and we need to address them quickly. Eye problems can go downhill quite quickly and if you don’t see your veterinarian within 12 to 24 sometimes 48 hours, we could have a serious problem on our hands.

If you’re worried about anything with your dog or cat’s eye, make sure you bring them in to see us. Some of the common things you might need to look for or might see are squinting—severe squinting, excessive tearing—any color, whether it’s yellow, clear, dark brown, it doesn’t matter, excessive tearing you may need to see them; any cloudiness to the actually surface of the eye, so the windshield part of the eye, that’s the clear part that we look through. If the dark circle in the center is big and open especially in bright light conditions, you’re going to want to bring them in and any type of redness. Redness can be an early warning sign to many different problems.

So if you notice anything or you’re concerned about anything in your pet’s eye, please bring them in to see us so we can address the problem.
