As your dog ages is it starting to get stiff and sore especially when he/she tries to first get up? Does your pet not want to run as much and play because they are in pain? These are signs that your dog could be getting arthritis as they age. Lots of dogs will get arthritis in the hips just from being overweight and with wear and tear on the hips over time. If your dog has ever injured a leg severely sometimes they may get arthritis in that leg as they age. If your dog is showing these signs of arthritis have your veterinarian take a look at them and see how severe the arthritis is. This may involve some x rays. This will give you some options on how to best treat your dog. If they are overweight then weight loss is essential. Glucosamine is a natural product that may help some forms of arthritis. If it gets bad enough and painful enough your dog may need anti-inflammatory or pain meds or both. Make sure you discuss any medication with your veterinarian before giving to your pet.
